Deuteron Electromagnetic Properties with a Poincar\'e-Covariant Current Operator within Front-Form Hamiltonian Dynamics

    Get PDF
Deuteron elastic and deep inelastic electromagnetic properties have been studied within the front-form Hamiltonian dynamics, using a Poincar\'e-covariant current operator. The deuteron elastic form factors are strongly sensitive to different realistic N−NN-N interactions, while the relevance of different nucleon form factor models is huge for A(Q2)A(Q^2), weak for B(Q2)B(Q^2) and negligible for the tensor polarization. The possibility to gain information on the neutron charge form factor from an analysis of A(Q2)A(Q^2) has been investigated. The extraction of the neutron structure functions from the deuteron deep inelastic structure functions at high xx is largely affected by the use of our Poincar\'e-covariant relativistic approach instead of the usual impulse approximation within an instant-form approach.Comment: 12 pages, World-Scientific macro included. Repair of major system elements on Skylab

    Get PDF
In-flight maintenance, as conceived and preplanned for the Skylab mission was limited to simple scheduled and unscheduled replacement tasks and minor contingency repairs. Tools and spares were provided accordingly. However, failures during the mission dictated complicated and sophisticated repairs to major systems so that the mission could continue. These repairs included the release of a large structure that failed to deploy, the assembly and deployment of large mechanical devices, the installation and checkout of precision electronic equipment, troubleshooting and repair of precision electromechanical equipment, and tapping into and recharging a cooling system. The repairs were conducted both inside the spacecraft and during extravehicular activities. Some of the repair tasks required team effort on the part of the crewmen including close procedural coordination between internal and extravehicular crewmen. The Skylab experience indicates that crewmen can, with adequate training, make major system repairs in space using standard or special tools. Design of future spacecraft systems should acknowledge this capability and provide for more extensive in-flight repair and maintenance

Neutron unpolarized structure function F_2^n(x) from deep inelastic scattering off ^{3}He and ^{3}H

    Get PDF
The possibility to safely extract the neutron deep inelastic structure function F2n(x)F_2^n(x) in the range 0≀x≀0.90 \le x \le 0.9 from joint measurements of deep inelastic structure functions of 3He^{3}He and 3H^{3}H is demonstrated. While the nuclear structure effects are relevant, the model dependence in this extraction linked to the N−NN-N interaction is shown to be weak.Comment: 5 pages. Proc. A Study of Final State Effects in the electrodisintegration of a polarized Helium-3 target

An approach for the description of the final state interaction in the evaluation of inclusive electromagnetic responses of a polarized Helium-3 target, is briefly illustrated. Preliminary results of calculations, where the final state interaction is fully taken into account for the two-body break-up channel, are compared with experimental data, showing a very encouraging improvement with respect to the plane wave impulse approximation results.Comment: 8 pages. The Singing Insects of Michigan

    Get PDF
Excerpt: The so-called singing insects are all those that make loud, rhythmical noises. They include members of three groups of Orthoptera (Gryllidae, Tettigoniidae, and Acridoidea) and one family of Homoptera (Cicadidae). There are about 300 noisy species in these four groups in eastern North America, perhaps a thousand in all of North America, and 25-30 thousand in the entire world. Only about 1000 of the world species have been studied in any detail, mostly in North America, Europe, Japan, and Australia

    Bilateral microform cleft lip

Microform cleft lip (MCL), also called congenital healed cleft lip or cleft lip "frustré", is a rare congenital anomaly. MCL has been described as having the characteristic appearance of a typical cleft lip which has been corrected in utero. We present a girl with bilateral microform cleft lip associated with a preauricular sinus and bilateral camptodactyly.peer-reviewe
